What Copart charges on top of your bid

Copart adds several fees to every winning bid. The biggest is the buyer fee, which rises with the final bid and depends on the title type (clean or salvage) and on how you pay. Wire transfers and debit cards count as secured payment and cost less; credit cards and PayPal cost more.

  • Virtual bid fee: charged on every online win, a little lower if you won with a pre-bid than in the live auction.
  • Gate fee: $79 for clean-title cars and $95 for salvage titles, for moving the car to the loading area.
  • Environmental fee: $15 on salvage-title cars.
  • Late payment and storage: pay within 3 business days to avoid a $50 late fee, and collect the car quickly; each yard sets its own daily storage rate.

Before you bid

Auction photos rarely show the whole story. A VinCode report shows earlier accidents, title brands in other states, odometer readings and past auction sales for the same VIN, so you know whether the car was already rebuilt once. Also compare IAA's fees, and see the full cost of importing a car from the USA.

How much are Copart fees on a $5,000 car?

For a salvage-title car paid by wire with a pre-bid, Copart charges a $775 buyer fee, a $110 virtual bid fee, a $95 gate fee and a $15 environmental fee: $995 before title mailing, storage or shipping.

Are Copart fees cheaper for clean-title cars?

Yes, slightly. Clean-title cars have a lower buyer fee in most price bands, a lower virtual bid fee, a $79 gate fee instead of $95 and no environmental fee.

Does paying by credit card cost more at Copart?

Yes. Credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal count as unsecured payment and carry a higher buyer fee, often $200 or more extra on a mid-priced car.

Do I need a broker to buy from Copart?

Many cars can only be bought with a dealer license. Buyers without one use a registered broker, who adds their own fee on top of the Copart fees shown here.
