What IAA charges on top of your bid
IAA (Insurance Auto Auctions, iaai.com) sets its fees by buyer type. This calculator uses the non-licensed buyer schedule, which applies to most private and overseas buyers bidding without a dealer license.
- Buyer fee: rises with the sale price; 7.5% of the sale price above $15,000.
- Internet bid fee: a proxy bid placed before the sale costs less than bidding live online.
- Service fee: $105 per vehicle for imaging, pull-out and loading.
- Title handling: $20 per purchase.
- IAA also adds an energy and environmental surcharge and charges storage by branch; check your branch for those amounts.

Copart or IAA?
The buyer fees are close, but the extra charges differ: Copart adds a gate fee and, for salvage titles, an environmental fee, while IAA charges a service fee and a title fee. Run the same bid through the Copart fee calculator to compare, and check the car's history with a VinCode report before you bid.
How much is the IAA buyer fee on a $3,000 car?
For a non-licensed buyer, IAA charges a $655 buyer fee on a $3,000 sale, plus a $100 proxy bid fee (or $110 live), a $105 service fee and a $20 title fee.
Is a proxy bid cheaper than a live bid at IAA?
Yes. The proxy bid fee is $10 to $20 lower than the live online bid fee in every price band.
Can I buy from IAA without a dealer license?
Some vehicles are open to public buyers; others need a license. Buyers without one often bid through a registered broker, who adds their own fee.
