Import taxes in Canada
No duty on cars built in the US, Canada or Mexico (CUSMA); 6.1% duty on others. 5% GST on the value plus duty; provincial tax is charged when you register.
Shipping
Cars are delivered by truck or driven across the border, usually within 5–10 days.
Good to know
- The car must be admissible under the Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV); the RIV fee and inspection are extra.
- Salvage-branded cars cannot always be imported into every province; check your province first.
Check the car before you bid
US auction cars often have a past: earlier accidents, a flood title in another state, or a previous rebuild. A VinCode report shows title brands, total-loss events, odometer readings and earlier auction sales for the VIN. See the fees on their own in the Copart and IAA calculators.
