Import taxes in Georgia

Excise from 2 April 2026: GEL 1.5 per cm³ of engine for cars up to 6 years old and GEL 4.5 per cm³ for older cars (left-hand drive; hybrids pay 40%). Customs processing and other charges are extra.

Shipping

Most cars go in a shared 40-foot container from a US east-coast port to Poti, typically about $1,400 per car and 30–40 days door to door. Prices change with the season and the departure port, so type your own quote into the calculator.

Good to know

  • Older cars became much more expensive to clear in 2026, so a 6-year-old car can cost far less than a 7-year-old one.
  • Right-hand-drive cars pay much higher excise.
  • Check the Revenue Service (rs.ge) calculator for the final figure.
